Many people ask whether they will be X-rayed at a chiropractic visit, why, and what happens. This page explains how it works at Chadstone Chiropractic.

When X-rays are taken

Weight-bearing spinal X-rays are taken onsite with digital equipment, usually during the initial consultation and where clinically appropriate. Not every patient needs one. The decision depends on factors such as symptoms, health history, examination findings and professional judgement, and it is likely to be discussed at the first visit.

Where X-rays fit in the assessment

Radiographic analysis is the seventh step of the Gonstead system assessment, which also includes history, visualisation, instrumentation, static palpation, motion palpation, and neurological and orthopaedic tests. X-rays are one source of information among several, and the findings are read alongside the rest of the assessment.

What an X-ray shows

An X-ray shows the bones of the spine: how they line up, the curves of the spine, and signs of previous injury.

X-rays and radiation

X-rays use ionising radiation. That is one reason we take them only when they are clinically appropriate. If you have questions about X-rays, ask your chiropractor before your appointment or at your first visit.

What to bring

If you have any previous spinal X-rays or scans, even older ones, bring them along. They can help build a clearer picture of your spinal history alongside your new assessment.

Booking

To ask a question or book a first appointment, call (03) 9568 0155 or book an appointment. No referral is needed to book a first appointment.
